About us:

Hi and welcome to Pet Patrol!  We are Liz and Vanessa Freedman, longtime pet owners and lifelong pet lovers!
Pet Patrol was established in early 2002 when we decided to combine our love of all creatures great and small with the necessity of making a living.  In 2001 we both began pet-sitting under the respective wings of two established local pet care companies.  At the end of ‘01, we decided to partner up with one another and make a go of it on our own, and Pet Patrol was born!

Pet Patrol is a fully insured, top-quality pet-care service specializing in care for dogs, cats, birds, and other domestic family pets.  We have over 4 years of professional experience with dogs, cats, and small animals, and over 20 years of personal experience with animals & pets of all kinds.  We are committed to providing a superior level of service for your pet so that you can feel confident that they’re having fun while you’re away!

Our Services:

Daily Visit: (Standard Daily Visit) Daily Visit are offered once or twice daily.  We recommend one early afternoon and one late afternoon visit, especially for more active pets.  Our regular service hours are between 10:30am and 6pm. Visits are approximately 20 minutes in length and include providing fresh food and water, exercising and playing with your pet and yard and/or litter box cleanup (when applicable).  For a small fee you can add to these visits to cover any medications (please see “medicine and urgent care” for specifics), special needs, or extended time.   We also provide personalized recommendations to help make your pet’s time without you as comfortable as possible.

Dog Walks: Dog walking sessions are about 20 minutes in length. When available, you may choose from three (3) to five (5) dog walking days per week, Monday through Friday.  Your dog(s) must be comfortable and controllable while on a leash.  We must be notified of any and all socialization issues associated with your dog.  For everybody’s safety, we do not walk dogs with a history of socialization problems without the appropriate muzzle and/or restraints.  We offer recommendations for how to best socialize your pet and make its walking experience a happy one!  Please see our “Leash Training” section for more information.

Leash Training: Aren’t you tired of having your dog drag you down the street?  Will no amount of tugging on the leash pacify your pooch?  Never fear--we offer leash-training services for those who are interested in correcting their dog’s walking habits.  We can only offer leash-training services for dogs that we walk 4-5 times per week, as consistency is the key to this type of training.  We will evaluate your dog to see if he/she requires this service, and an additional fee will apply.

Extended Time: (Extended Visit) If your pet would benefit from more playtime than our standard 20-minute visits can provide, you can purchase extended time to be added on in 10 minute increments!  We only ask that you limit your maximum visit time to 40 minutes.  That way we can be sure to have time to visit all of our other fuzzy friends during the day.

Puppy Pop-Ins: (Shorter Visits) Puppy Pop-Ins are shorter visits (10 minutes).   Perfect for that new puppy who needs a quick play break during the day. These “quickies” can be scheduled from one to two times daily.  This service is for puppies 6 months and under and can only be booked in conjunction with a daily or extended-care plan.

Pet Patrol Taxi: Need a ride?  We know that today’s pets have busy lifestyles!  That’s why our Pet Patrol Taxi service comes in handy.  We can get them to or from the groomer, the vet, or wherever else they need to go in Jersey City or Hoboken.  Service is limited so please call one week in advance to inquire.  Dogs must be comfortable riding in a vehicle and cats must be secured in a carrier for everyone’s safety.

Medicine and Urgent Care:  Pet Patrol has experience in caring for sick and disabled animals.  As an additional service, we will administer medication (pills, fluids, creams or ointments) to your pet(s) if needed. If your pet requires more complex medications such as IV fluids or insulin injections, please inquire.  We are happy to customize visits for your animal’s special needs.  We will also offer assistance in finding the right vet or animal hospital for your pet.

Pet Patrol is certified in Pet CPR by the American Red Cross

Holidays: That’s right, we said “Holidays”!  Rates are subject to holiday fees and rates vary.  To ensure availability, please be sure to book in advance.  Please contact us about our holiday schedules and rates and be sure to mention that you heard about it at petpatroljc.com!
*Availability is limited and cancellations or schedule changes must be made in advance and are also subject to fees.

Pet Boarding: Our boarding services are offered for your dog or small pet in our private homes.  This is a great alternative to kennel boarding, as your dog or cat is able to spend their time away from you in a comfortable, loving, cage-free environment.  We offer a pick-up and drop-off service for boarded pets.  Please see “Terms & Conditions” for more information.

Why Us:

A Few Things that Make Pet Patrol Special!

Working in the streets of Jersey City can be an eye-opening experience.  Every day, we see people in our community who are in need.  We have been very fortunate to have had the support of many wonderful clients over these past few years, and we were inspired by their generosity to begin our annual Pet Patrol Holiday Food & Clothing Drive in 2004.  The outpouring of food and clothes was almost overwhelming and made the drive a great success.  The residents of Hope House, an emergency shelter for women and children, were the recipients of many of the donations.  2005’s Holiday Drive was even better, and we’re looking forward to making it a bi-annual affair starting in 2006

During our 4 years providing pet care in downtown Jersey City, we have established valuable relationships with other local pet-care services.  If there is ever any service you need that we can’t provide, we will be happy to refer you to one of the other established, professional pet-care providers within our network.

WE CARE!  We genuinely love all of “our” pets and we treat each one with the same love and attention as we would want our own pets to be given.  When we think that your pet might benefit from a new approach, food, product or training technique, we’ll always let you know.  If we all work together, we’ll help your pet to achieve its potential as the best pet ever!

“Problem Walkers”, AKA “Chronic Pullers”:  In the interests of keeping everyone (dogs and walkers) safe, happy and injury-free, we are not able to accept dogs for walking who are unable to walk safely and securely on a leash.  Dogs are always walked on-leash ONLY, unless they are in a secured dog-run area.  We offer leash-training services for those who are interested in correcting their dog’s walking habits.  We can only offer leash-training services for dogs whom we walk 4-5 times per week, as consistency is the key to this type of training.

Termination Policy:  If you will need to terminate services for any reason, we require 2 weeks’ notice.  If you do not provide ample notice, you will still be liable for payment for your pet’s last 2 weeks of care.
